I asked Steve to pen down his personal thoughts and feelings regarding David Bowie.<\/p>\n
He wrote a beautiful homage for you to read:<\/p>\n
Bowie<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n I never properly met Bowie.<\/strong><\/span> I shared the same room space as him once or twice, albeit with numerous other musicians.<\/strong><\/span> But I never got to have a one on one conversation with him.<\/strong><\/span> I did, however believe that our paths would cross again at some point.<\/strong><\/span> I thought that I had it all worked out.<\/strong><\/span> That band was a wonderful labour of love to me. I got to perform songs that I grew up listening to alongside some of the musicians that were on the record. And I got to play Bowie\u2019s 12 string guitar parts as well as sax. I was a kid in a toy shop.<\/strong><\/span> I was getting closer.<\/strong><\/span> Although we never did meet properly he knew of my existence and he knew what I did and how I sounded. That is some comfort to me.<\/strong><\/span> No other artist has come close in influencing me and the paths that I would choose to follow in my life. I believe that I speak on behalf of a generation. My generation.<\/strong><\/span> And that\u2019s proper.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n David Bowie\u2026Thank you. Thank you. \n And I\u2019ve shared the stage with him, again with numerous other musicians and even then I had to share it with millions of other people from all over the world via satellite.<\/strong><\/span>
\n That particular event being Live Aid at Wembley Stadium.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
\n We never had our moment together. Maybe I was too starstruck to strike up a conversation.<\/strong><\/span>
\n Shame, considering that he was an approachable, down to earth kind of guy, especially to his fans. Fans like me.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
\n And properly.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
\n He was going to call me up and ask me to play sax on some song of his.<\/strong><\/span>
\n Perhaps in acknowledgement of my efforts in helping bring about \u2018Holy Holy\u2019, a supergroup featuring Spider From Mars\u2019 drummer Woody Woodmansey and also Bowie\u2019s long time producer, bass player and friend, Tony Visconti.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
\n It wasn\u2019t Bowie but he knew about the project and he gave it his blessing by allowing us to promote our activities through his official social media sites.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
\n And then the unthinkable happens.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
\n Through his music and his art I got to know him fairly well. After all I grew up with him. We all did.<\/strong><\/span>
\n And importantly, through his music and his art I got to know a lot about myself.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
\n And let\u2019s not forget that without Bowie there would be no Spandau.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
