A couple of days after Bowie’s passing I caught his ‘Reality’ tour from 2003 on TV:
That particular band was astonishing. But what impressed me most, besides seeing my pal, Sterling Campbell on drums was guitarist Earl Slick. I was mesmerised by his playing, above all his tone and his feel, all with the minimum of effects pedals. And I gushed about it to pals for days after.
So, imagine how excited I was when that very same week and by complete coincidence I was asked if I would join his band for a tour of the UK and Japan. I was made up. And it reminded me that this is exactly why I do what I do.
For the tour I will be on sax, percussion, guitar, backing vocals and musical director (MD) duties.
No pressure there then!
