In 2015 Iggy Pop asked me to be his special guest at his show in London at Wembley Stadium. At that time I was on tour with Spandau Ballet and so I sadly had to pass on this amazing opportunity.
So, you can imagine how well chuffed I was when my good friend and mighty Iggy Pop guitarist Kevin Armstrong made a dream come true for me just a few days ago at Les Déferlantes festival in Argelès-sur-Mer (FR). He mentioned to Iggy that I would be at the festival and suggested that I join them on stage. And so I was invited by Iggy to share the stage with him and his incredible musicians Kevin Armstrong, Mat Hector, Seamus Beaghen and Ben Ellis for “Wild Child”, the last song of the set and one of Iggy’s biggests hits.
It was quite a short notice call so I hadn’t much time to learn my part as I was in Milan the night before playing a show myself. In fact I then only had just a few minutes on showday to go over the tune with Kevin. But who cares for rehearsals when the “Godfather of Punk” wants to rock out with you? It was a freefall for me accompanied by a massive kick-in of adrenalin. It was bloody amazing and I loved every second of this performance, as a professional musican and as a big fan of Iggy. A lifetime experience that will remain in my heart for the rest of my life.
Massive thanks to Kevin, Mat, Seamus, Ben, my pal Tom Wilcox and of course Iggy “whereareyoumotherfucker” Pop.
Thx also to Sabrina Winter for filming this special moment for me.
And here’s the video:
