SUMMERDAYS FESTIVAL AT CLITHEROE CASTLE – JULY 2016

Posted on Posted in LIVE, NEWS

I’m very chuffed about this upcoming event.

I love curating festivals. We have some great artists lined up but what inspires me most is looking out for new talent. It’s so exciting to potentially ‘discover’ the next big thing.

One of the biggest payoffs for me in the music business is to be able to give young bands, singers and musicians a stage for them to showcase their work or in some other way give them a helping hand. Even Spandau Ballet needed a helping hand to begin with. And I’m full of advice for them even if they don’t need it or ask for it.

Happily, I can confirm that I will also be performing at the festival myself. HA!

Steve x

I was hoping you would be performing on the 6th as Mike Peters from The Alarm is performing on that date

Hi Steve, great news!!! My hubby changed his mind! He don't want to go to Chilfest the 9th of July (We're going to see Tony Hadley in October 2016 & The Human League in November 2016) but he wants to see Take That in Hyde Park London (the 9th of July). We could arrange something to travel first to Clitheroe Castle the 8th of July to see you there and the next day by train or...? to London. The 6th of July is difficult...normally it's not allowed to get vacation in that period on my work. When we went to Verona to see Spandau Ballet last year, my 3 bosses were not so happy that I wanted to have vacation for a few days. For once it was not a problem but not every year. But for 1 day, on Friday the 8th, that won't be a problem for them. ;-) Thanks Steve! See you there! x

I'll be there for all 3 days but not sure when I'll perform yet. I'll pencil in the 8th tho for the moment just for you x

You have a lot of experience in the world of music and it is a wonderful thing you are doing with this festival, giving help and advice to upcoming musicians, I do hope I can get to be at the festival, you yourself are great to watch.

Great and exciting news, Steve! No one would've been a better patron than you! Wish I could be there... Enjoy!

Oh that's nice! I suppose he will be happy for your call in any case. And as I am very intrigued to know what he will answer you...hope you will update us on this story! ☺

I've just been given his number and will be calling him to remind him of his kindness. I'm very intrigued to know if he knows it was the future Spandau Ballet that he was helping out.

This is a very exciting thing and your entusiastic words reveal your passion to pass to others your experience. I was moved to read how others (like Tom Robinson ) helped young Spands in their first steps. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the kind reply! it's always a pleasure to know things that happened when you guys were very young and still unknown! We don't know so much about that period :) I wonder if Tom Robinson remember this too.

My husband Jan, a few friends (David Bowie/Human League/80's music fans) & me, we planned to travel by car to the U.K. that weekend! We're going to Chilfest the 9th of July. Maybe we can go the 8th of July? When will you perform there? Normally we have to travel back home the 10th of July. I really hope we can go! :-)

Is there a particular date you will be performing on? One of the things I want to do while I am in the UK is see Steve Norman perform live. This couldn't be more perfect *-*

In December 1976 we were a school band with not much equipment. A guy helped out by loaning us a bass speaker cabinet. It belonged to another band, friends of his and their name was printed on the side. It said 'The Kinks'. We thought we had already made the big time! And that guy's name?...It was Tom Robinson who had his own hits and is now a DJ on BBC6 Music promoting new bands and artists.

That's very nice of you Steve! Which artist has given you the best advice or help when Spandau Ballet were beginning?

Me parece genial, que existan este tipo de festivales para ayudar a grupos y cantantes y darle el empujón hacia arriba que necesitan.

What a fantastic thing for you to be involved in....I would go if i could! How awesome that you'll be on stage there too :-) Half the people I follow on Twitter are up-and-coming-bands and I just love listening to their music. New and exciting music. We're lucky that there's live undiscovered bands in Brisbane who play pubs and me and my crowd love going along to show our support. Love your blog btw...what took you so long ! hehe xx
